1880 (chart). Chart of Mortality in Newark, 1859-1878. This unusual 5-color graphic display is found in Dr. Edgar Holden’s Mortality and Sanitary Record of Newark, N.J. (1880).  This work was prepared for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company, where Holden served as Medical Director. ‘Diseases of Mothers and Infants” was long the major cause of death in Newark.
